Already trying to recover from the death of their mother, five brothers have now lost their 17-year-old sister who was the only female left in the family. The girl was found dead with her throat slit open inside a house in Northwest Delhi's Shalimar Bagh area on Saturday afternoon, which police claimed belongs to the male friend of the deceased. The family just recently lost their mother due to health issues. Police have apprehended the accused from Bihar and he is being brought to Delhi late on Sunday night.
The police have not denied chances of sexual assault before the murder as autopsy reports are awaited.
According to the deceased's father, the minor did not return home after she had left home at around 7pm to buy vegetables on Friday.
"We tried calling her but her number was not reachable after which we started looking for her. After not been able to find her in the locality, we approached the police and gave a missing complaint on Friday night. On Saturday one of my son's claimed that he had seen her in one of the lanes and the same information was passed on to the police," said the deceased's father who works as a door man at a farm house.
Officials then reached accused's house and found it locked. They broke in and discovered the body inside, Aslam Khan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (northwest), said.
According to the deceased's brother, the sight of her sister's body will be in his mind throughout his life.
"She was just one and half years elder to me and I was closest to her. I used to share everything with her. After our mother expired, she took her place in our lives. She never complained about anything. I just want to see the accused behind bars," said the 15 year old brother.
While the news of her death came as a shocker for the neighbours who also claimed that the family was struggling financially which caused a lot fights on daily basis.
"Looking at the family's financial status we used to ask her about them but she never disclosed them. Recently she informed us that she has got a new job at a showroom and would be joining it soon," said a neighbour.
Police said that the post mortem of the victim will be conducted on Monday while the accused has been apprehended.
"We have apprehended the accused from Bihar and a team is bringing him to Delhi. Further investigation underway," said Khan.
