Gujarat: Lawyers defy strike to attend court

The indefinite strike called by the Gujarat High Court Advocates Association against the transfer of Justice Akil Kureshi has started losing steam with several advocates defying the strike to argue matters listed before the vacation benches on Tuesday.

Over 25-30 lawyers and advocates were present in the court and the vacation benches assigned for the Diwali break functioned as usual, with little and limited impact of the strike.

In fact, a senior office bearer of the GHCAA reached the court and requested the lawyers to support the cause of the strike.

However, by the time he reached the court, the hearing of the cases listed in both the civil and criminal benches were already over or nearing completion. Apart from the lawyers, some of the petitioners, or their relatives, appeared as party-in-person to argue or strongly debate their cases, especially in cases related to temporary bail of prisoners.
