On Tuesday, 6th November people of West Bengal, Odisha, Assam etc celebrate Kali Puja. It is celebrated on new moon day.
Kali is one of the avatars of Goddess Durga.In Bengal, it is primarily celebrated as a Baroyaari (Community) puja. Alongside Kali Puja, Deepavali is also celebrated on this day.
Normally, the Kali Puja happens around midnight on Amavasya, post which Bhog is distributed among the devotees.
According to Gupta Press Panjika, which is followed by most, the Kali Puja timings are as follows: Amavasya starts from 9.59 PM on Tuesday. All the rituals leading up to Kali Puja have to be done before midnight. At midnight, Kali Puja will be held. On 7th November, Amavasya will be till 9.10 PM. The Lakshmi and Alakshmi Puja have to be performed between 4.52 PM-6.28 PM.
According to 'Bisuddha Siddhanta', Amavsya will be there from 10.27PM PM on Tuesday to 9.32 PM on Wednesday.
