Delhi Commission for Women sends notice to SHO over Mandawali minor deaths

Delhi Commission for Women on Sunday sent a notice to SHO Mandawali in the case of the death of the three minor girls allegedly due to starvation. In an earlier reply from the Forensic Lab, the commission had been informed that the viscera report is lying since September 28, and despite several intimations to the Delhi Police, they have not been collected.

The case was reported in July this year. The family was reportedly facing financial woes and doctors had suspected that the three minor girls aged two, four, and eight had not had food for several days.

The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) solicited a reply on the action taken in the matter by the police, which in turn informed the women rights body that a report of the viscera samples deposited in the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) was still awaited, the DCW said in a statement.

The Commission then issued a notice to FSL. However, the laboratory informed that the viscera report was lying with the FSL since September 28 and despite intimation, the police failed to collect the same, it said.

The Commission has now asked the police to provide the status of the probe and called its approach "unpardonable".

"By when shall the samples be collected. In case samples have been collected, please provide the date of collecting them and reasons for the delay. Please provide the sought information urgently," stated the notice.

Three minor sisters, aged two, four and eight were found unconscious in their one-room house by their neighbours on the afternoon of July 24. When taken to the hospital, they were declared dead.

The girls' father, was a casual labourer and has been missing since while their mother was believed to be mentally-challenged and could not take care of them.
